Birth centenary of late Sri. Kompella Subbaraya Sasty garu


Brief biography




Bramhasri Kompella Subbaraya Sastry garu was born in 1910 in a village named Irusumanda in Andhra Pradesh. As a child, he studied vedas under the tutelage of his father, vyakarana and vedanta shastras with Sri Jayanti Suryanarayana Sastri garu and Sri Tatarayudu Sastri garu. After mastering the vyakarana shastra, he was awarded the title Vyayakarana Kesari by the Pithapuram samsthana. Later on, he obtained the title Shiromani from Madras Univeristy and returned to Narendrapuram, where he taught vyakarana shastra (including Mahabhashya) at Sri Challa Subramhanya Bharati Bhavana Sanskrita Kalashala for nearly 40 years.

He also taught at Raja Rajeshwari Sanskrita Kalashala in Modekurru.
A pious man, he was unswerving in performing his nitya karma and was especially devoted to the study of Srimad Bhagavatam. Many of his students won great accolades in the fields of sanskrit literature and darshanas. Most notable among his students were Late Sri Rani Narasimha Sastri, a scholar in four darshanas and recipient of President's Gold Medal and Late Dr. Pullela Shreeramachandrudu, a recipient of the President's award for outstanding achievement in sanskrit. He was also conferred the title Adarshopadhyaya by the then President of India Sri V.V.Giri.

To commemorate the birth centenary of Sastry garu, a shastra sabha comprising of discussions in Vedanta, Vyakarana and Nyaya will be conducted during October 30,2010 - November 1, 2010 at Sri Padmavati Kalyana Mandapam, Vadrevu vari satram, Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. All those interested are welcome to attend.
